Butiki Bullets: Tuesday November 17

  • Could we see JRU big man JR Sena in the PBA soon? Apparently, he attended a Burger King Whoppers practice last week and could receive a contract similar to undrafted rookie Ramsey Williams. Sena was drafted by the San Miguel Beermen with the 9th pick, but went unsigned as he finished his NCAA stint with the Heavy Bombers. Sena showed plenty of holes in his game this year, but if he is signed, he will be the youngest active player in the PBA so time will be on Sena's, and BK's, side.
  • Norman Black on Ato Agustin: "I drafted him in 1989 and I knew exactly what Ato can do for our team... As far as becoming a good coach, I wasn’t surprised as Ato played with great coaches in the PBA." Black and Agustin are set to receive co-Coach of the Year honors from the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps.
  • The Philippine Patriots (4-1) are closing in on the Singapore Slingers (5-1) for the top spot in the ABL after picking up another win. The only defeat of either team is to each other. It looks like more and more teams are looking to take advantage of the two imports, three imports from ASEAN rule of the ABL. That essentially means you can hire up to three Filipinos on your team. Al Vergara, Leo Avenido, Don Camaso, Kiko Adriano, Rensy Bajar, Roel Hugnatan, Rudy Lingganay, Toto Bandaying, Ricky Ricafuente and Axel Doruelo are all playing for non-Philippine Patriots teams in the ABL. Both the KL Dragons and the Brunei Barracudas have three Filipinos on roster.
